Wolverine HOG Chapter
2008 Charity Donations

Once again this year, the Wolverine HOG Chapter has made charitable donations to local organizations.  The donations were passed out to representatives during the December general meeting.  These organizations were selected by this year's charity committee.  Thanks to the charity committe members for their time and effort necessary to select this year's receipents.  The receipents for this year:

Wigs 4 Kids - The chapter will be participating in the Adopt-A-Kid program
Yes I Can Camp - The chapter will be sponsoring 20 children to this camp for amputees
Christ Child House - The chapter funds will help provide sports equipment and sweat clothes
Bear Lake Blind Camp - Chapter funds will go towards a Beach Wheelchair
Bouvenschen School - 5 Therapeutic Listening Systems
Angel's Place - Life Skills Program

In addition, the donations collected during the Fall Charity Drive that took place the weekend before Thanksgiving will go to the Macomb County Foster Care Program.  We will make  donations to the Foster Care program throughout the year.

Thanks to all that helped out!  Happy Holidays

Fingers Need Warmth

With the Tundra Ride approaching I’d like to remind you of a few things. There is a fine line between keeping warm and still having the mobility (and flexibility) to operate your bike safely. This is particularly true when wearing gloves. It goes without saying we need to keep our fingers warm. I’m sure you’ve all tried squeezing the clutch lever with numb fingers. Wearing thinner gloves maintains sensitivity but they are not very good insulators against the cold. On the other hand (no pun intended) we don’t want gloves so bulky that they restrict our movement.

I offer two suggestions; the first is to invest in heated gloves. The Motor Company offers two types. The first is heated via a cable connection to your battery and a less expensive battery operated version.  Both types can be purchased at the Dealership and both are extremely effective.

The second suggestion is generally used as a temporary solution but works surprisingly well. Purchase those heated hand warmers. The manufacturer’s claim they will work for 8 hours but I have found they really are only effective for about 5 hours. Placed on top of your hand inside your glove, the heat will radiate to your fingertips. They also make larger sizes for your boots and even have sizes large enough to be taped to your torso.

The bottom line is safety! Do whatever works for you but don’t compromise safety in an effort to stay warm.
